This is Ian Stevenson.
 On Friday, September 22nd, 2023, in what has become an annual event here at Hakusanroku campus, the students made tie-dye t-shirts. 12 students, 3 learning mentors and 2 teachers met in the project booth to twist, crumple and knot t-shirts into different patterns before dying them different colors.
 Before all the tie dying began, the tables were covered with tarps and the dyers with garbage bag aprons. After this, the students were told to be careful and to start tying and dying. Different students made different designs and students helped their classmates with designs and color. Some students made multi-color spirals, while other students dyed their names onto the t-shirts. When the students finished, they wrote their names on their shirt and hung them up to dry.
 After the t-shirts were dry, the excess dye was soaked out of them and they were washed. This is a very important step, for if you don’t soak out the excess dye, it will color all your other clothes when you wash them with the t-shirt. At Learning Session on Monday, September 25^th, the students, learning mentors and teachers picked up their t-shirts and tried them on.
 As you can see from the photos, the students, learning mentors and teachers enjoyed themselves and made original and colorful t-shirts.

　2023年9月22日（金）、白山麓キャンパスでは、毎年恒例となっているタイダイ染めTシャツ作りが行われました。12名の学生と3名のラーニングメンター、2名の教員がプロジェクトブースに集まり、Tシャツをねじったり、くしゃくしゃにしたり、結んだりして、様々な模様に染め上げました。
　Tシャツを染め始める前に、テーブルに防水シートを敷き、参加者はゴミ袋で作ったエプロンを身に付けました。その後、学生たちにはTシャツを丁寧に染めるように呼びかけ、タイダイ染めの工程が始まりました。学生たちは様々なデザインを作り、クラスメイトのデザインや色付けを手伝っていました。色とりどりの渦巻き柄をデザインする学生もいれば、Tシャツに自分の名前を染める学生もいました。学生たちはTシャツを染め上げた後、Tシャツに自分の名前を書き、ハンガーにかけて乾かしました。
　Tシャツが乾いた後、余分な染料を取り除くために洗濯しました。これはとても重要なステップで余分な染料を取り除かないと、そのTシャツと他のTシャツを一緒に洗濯したときに、他のTシャツまで染まってしまいます。9月25日（月）のラーニングセッションでは、学生、ラーニングメンター、教員が完成したTシャツを受け取りました。
　写真でご覧いただけるように、学生、ラーニングメンター、教員たちは楽しみながらオリジナルでカラフルなTシャツを作ることができました。

　みなさん、こんにちは。物理を担当してる教員の伊藤 周です。今回はSTEMフェアについて書きたいと思います。
　STEMフェアとは、国際高専の１、２年生が夏休みの課題として取り組む「Summer  STEM Project」の成果発表の場として、毎年９月の中旬に行われます。（2023年のSTEMフェアについてはこちら）平たく言えば、夏の自由研究の発表会ですね。海外の学校で行われるサイエンスフェア（科学に関する学生たちの発表会）のようなイメージで、ちょっとしたお祭りみたいな雰囲気でやれたらいいと考えていました。

　6年前、国際理工学科がスタートした時に、夏休みの宿題として何を出すべきか考えていました。いわゆる、普通の宿題のように問題を解かせるプリントなども考えたのですが、国際高専の教育ポリシーに沿って、問題を正確に解く能力というより、自分で問題を見つけて解決するという能力を伸ばしたい、と考えていました。本来、そういったことは授業中にやった方が良いのですが、高校３年分を２年で修了させる国際高専のカリキュラムでは課題研究の時間を授業内に取るのは難しいことでした。そこで夏休みの宿題として「Summer STEM Project」をやってもらうことにしました。
　他にも目的として、情報をインターネットからコピーするだけではなく、自分自身で考える力を養うこと、科学や技術に興味を持ってもらうこと、科学的研究手法を体験してもらうこと、発表の練習をすることなどが含まれています。

Summer STEM Projectのテーマは学生自身が決めますが、いくつかルールがあります。

1. テーマはSTEM（Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics）に関連したものであること。

現在はArtを加えてSTEAMという言い方もありますが、Artは含めないでいます。というのもArtのテーマ（例えば絵や俳句などの文学、映像作品など）を出されても、なかなか理科科目担当教員では評価しかねますし、目的ともずれるからです。

2. 使用する予算は１万円以内にすること。

これは例えば高い実験機材を買ってそれを試してみるだけの研究発表にしてもらいたくない、という思いからです。最近は格安のDNA検査装置やキットなどもありますし、そういったものを使って一見レベルが高そうに見えるだけのものにはして欲しくないと考えています。よく学生から「予算１万円もくれるんですか？」と聞かれますが、学校が支給するわけではなく、完全に学生の自腹になります。

3. ２年生は必ずデータを取ること。

１年生の時は学生自身の興味を優先したいので、あまりテーマを厳しくしないのですが、２年生には「データを取る」ということを縛りとして与えています。この条件を加えることで、何のデータがいくつあるのか、どうやってデータを取ったか、それを表やグラフで表現することなどを考えなければならず、研究がぐっと科学的になります。

4. テーマをProposal（提案書）に書いて提出すること。

学生たちには目的や方法、必要な時間、コストなどを書いた提案書を７月に書いてもらいます。事前に内容をチェックすることで、上記の条件を満たしているか、簡単すぎないか、難しすぎないか、夏休み中に実現可能か、インターネット上に似たものがないか、などを教員が確認します。ただ、様々な事が原因で夏休み中に「先生、内容を変えていいですか」という連絡がちょくちょく来ます。また、ポスターを印刷する段になって「あれ？提案書と内容が全然違う！」となっていることもよくあります。

　理科科目担当教員としての仕事は実は提案書を確認するまでです。提案書を確認したら、あとは学生が実験や制作を行い、ポスターを完成させるのを待つだけです。ポスターの制作に関しては英語科目担当の先生方やラーニングメンターの方々にも協力してもらっています。ブリッジイングリッシュという授業の中で、実験の手順（仮説→実験→結果→考察）の流れとポスターの書き方を指導してもらったり、ポスター印刷前に英語のチェックをしてもらったりしています。色々な先生方のご協力のおかげで学生の発表がクオリティアップしていくのです。
　
　私自身はぶっちゃけ指導らしい指導はほとんどしていないのですが、学生の頑張りと先生方のサポートでSTEMフェアは国際高専の名物イベントになりつつあると思っています。私は学生たちの決して科学的ではなくてもユニークな発想、興味に基づいたプロジェクトが大好きなので、これからも継続してやっていきたいですね。

 Hello, everyone. I am Meguru Ito, the faculty member in charge of physics. This time, I would like to write about the STEM Fair.
 The STEM Fair is held in mid-September every year as an opportunity for 1st and 2nd year students to present the results of their Summer Vacation STEM Project. (For more information about 2023 STEM Project, please check here) Plainly speaking, it is a presentation of self-selected research that the students did over the summer. I thought it would be nice if we could do it in a festival like atmosphere, similar to science fairs (presentations by students on science) held in schools overseas.

 Six years ago, when the Department of Science and Technology was launched, I was thinking about what we should offer as homework during the summer vacation. I thought about having student complete worksheets, similar to what they do as homework. Instead, in line with the ICT educational policy, I thought we should try to develop the student abilities to identify and solve problems outside of the classroom. Normally, it would be better to do such things in class, but the curriculum of ICT, which requires students complete the equivalent of three years of high school in two years, makes it difficult to spend time on problem solving research in class. Therefore, I decided to have the students do a Summer STEM Project as their homework during the summer vacation. 
 Other objectives include developing the ability to think for oneself (not just copying information from the Internet), developing an interest in science and technology, experiencing scientific research methods, and making and giving presentations.

 The topic for the Summer STEM Project is determined by the students themselves, but there are a few rules:

1. The theme must be STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) related. Now, art is often added to STEM to make STEAM, we do not include Art in our Summer STEM Projects. This is because if art themes (e.g., pictures, literature such as haiku, video works, etc.) were presented, it would be difficult for a science teacher to evaluate it, and it would be inconsistent with the purpose.
   
   

2. The budget to be used should be less than 10,000 yen.

 This is because we do not want the students to present their research by simply buying expensive experimental equipment. Recently, inexpensive DNA testing equipment and kits are available, and we do not want the presentation to be something that only looks advanced at first glance by using such equipment. Students often ask me, "Are you going to give us a budget of 10,000 yen?", but the school does not provide the money; it is completely up to the students to pay for their own expenses.

3. 2nd year students must record data.

 For 1st year students, we do not make the theme too strict because we want to give priority to the students' own interests, but for 2nd year students, they must record data. By adding this condition, the research becomes much more scientific, as students have to think about what data they have, how much data they have, how they collected the data, and how to express it in tables and graphs.

4. Writing and submitting a proposal on the theme

 Students are asked to write a proposal in July that describes the purpose, methods, time required, costs, etc. of their project. By checking the proposal in advance, teachers will confirm whether the project meets the above requirements, whether it is too easy or too difficult, whether it is feasible during the summer vacation, and whether there is anything similar on the Internet. However, due to a variety of reasons, we often get calls from student during the summer vacation asking, "Can I change the content of the proposal?”.
Also, when it comes time to print the poster, I sometimes think, "What? The content is totally different from the proposal!"

 

 As a science subject teacher, I actually review the proposals. Once I have reviewed and approved the proposals, all I have to do is wait for the students to conduct their experiments or build their prototype and complete their posters. For the posters, we have the help of the English teachers and Learning Mentors. In Bridge English class, teachers instruct students on the flow of the experimental procedure (hypothesis → experiment → results → discussion) and how to write the poster, and or check their English before printing the poster. Thanks to the cooperation of various teachers, the quality of the students' presentations has improved.

  To be honest, I myself do not provide much guidance, but I believe that the STEM Fair is becoming a signature event at ICT, thanks to the students' hard work and the support of the teachers. I love the students' unique ideas and projects based on their interests, even if they are not scientific in nature. In the future, I hope the STEM Fair continues to be important event at ICT.

　こんにちは。白山麓事務室の間加田 侑里です。秋の涼しさを感じる季節となりました。今回は9月に行われた様々な課外活動について紹介します。

フラワーアレンジメント・華道教室

　2023年9月11日（月）、希望する学生と教員を対象に「フラワーアレンジメント・華道教室」が開催されました。本校の華道講座講師の南川 和美先生をお招きしました。
　まずは、カーネーションやひまわりを用いたフラワーアレンジメントが行われました。南川先生からハサミの持ち方や水切りの方法を教わった学生たちは、専用のスポンジに花をぎゅっと寄せて形を作ったり、森をイメージしながら制作したりと、思い思いの作品を完成させました。
　次に、3人1組になり、剣山と水盤を使って、バラ、デンファレ、ニューサイラン、タニワタリを用いて本格的な華道に挑戦しました。学生たちは南川先生のお手本を参考にしながら、まっすぐな葉に穴を空けて、くるっと曲げてカーブをつけたり、水面に花を散らしたりして、花や葉の個性を引き出しながら、華やかな世界観を表現した作品に仕上げました。
　学生たちと教員たちが制作した作品は、白山麓キャンパスの玄関や共有スペースに展示され、教職員やスタッフから「とても綺麗だったので、またやってほしい！」と大好評でした！

Flower Arrangement and Kado Class

 On September 11th, 2023, Flower Arrangement and Kado Class was held for students and teachers who wished to participate. Kazumi Minamikawa sensei (instructor) was invited to lead the Flower Arrangement course. 
 First, students and teachers arranged flowers using carnations and sunflowers. After learning from Minamikawa sensei how to cut the stems and keep the flowers in water, the students and teachers created their own flower arrangements by imaging a forest or recreating it by arranging flowers on a special sponge.
 Next, in groups of three, they tried their hand at flower arrangement, using a flower frog and a water basin to create a full-scale flower arrangement with roses, orchids, flax, and bird’s-nest ferns. Using Minamikawa sensei’s model as a guide, the students and teacher created a gorgeous world view by making holes in straight leaves, bending them around to create curves, and scattering flowers on the surface of the water while bringing out the individuality of the flowers and leaves.
 The works created by the students and faculty were displayed at the entrance of the Hakusanroku Campus and in common spaces, and received a great response from faculty and staff, who said, "It was so beautiful, we want you to do it again!".

ブックレビュー発表会

　2023年9月12日（火）、1年生によるブックレビュー発表会が開催されました。学生たちは夏季休暇中に読んだ英語の本（本のジャンルは自由）、STEMやデザインに関する本、好きな本（本のジャンル、言語は自由）の中から1冊選び、英語と日本語を交えて3分間発表しました。学生たちは、自分の興味のある本や強い影響を受けた啓発本など様々な分野の本を取り上げ、印象に残っているセリフや新しく学んだことを紹介しました。
　発表後、学生と教職員による投票が行われ、「ベストブックレビュー」が選ばれました。結果は以下の通りです。

Book Review Presentation

 On Tuesday, September 12th, a Book Review presentation by 1st year students was held. Students chose a book they had read during the summer break. It could be an English book (any genre of book), a book on STEM or design or a book that they wanted to read and gave a 3-minute presentation in English and Japanese. The students chose books from a variety of fields, including books that interested and influenced them. They talked about new things they learned from their books. Students also included memorable quotes from their summer reading. 
 After the presentations, students and faculty voted for the best three Book Reviews. The results are as follows:

チームビルディングゲーム大会

　2023年9月21日（木）、フィリップ・ケザウ先生による「チームビルディングゲーム大会」が開催されました。チームビルディングゲームは、フィリップ先生の出身のニュージーランドで野外キャンプをする際によく行われるゲームだそうです。チームメンバーがコミュニケーションを取りながら、それぞれの能力を最大限に活かし、同じ目標に向かって協力し合うゲームです。
　1、2年生混合のチームで行われ、どれだけ小さなスペースに立てるかを競う「シンキング・アイランドゲーム」や一列に並んでバレーボールを挟みながら歩く「バルーンウォーク」など、様々なチーム対抗ゲームが行われました。ゲームの様子は写真や動画をご覧ください！
　1、2年生は半年間寮生活を共にしていたからか、グループワークもスムーズこなしていました。学生たちはよく笑い、チームワークでそれぞれの課題を素早く適応していたのが印象的でした！

Team Building Games Tournament

 On Thursday, September 21st, 2023, a Team Building Games Tournament was held by Philip Cadzow sensei. Team building games are games that are often played when camping outdoors in New Zealand, where Philip sensei is from. They are games in which team members communicate with each other, make the most of their abilities, and work together toward the same goal. 
 The various games were played by mixed teams of 1st and 2nd year students. Games included a game called Sinking Island in which teams competed to see how small a space they could stand in and a game called Balloon Walk in which teams walked in single file with a volleyball in between them. Please see photos and movie of the games below!
 The 1st and 2nd year students were smooth in their group work, probably because they had been living together in the dormitory for half a year. The students laughed a lot, and it was impressive to see how quickly they adapted to their respective tasks through teamwork!

ボクシングブートキャンプ

　2023年9月11日（月）～22日（金）の平日の放課後の時間にフィリップ先生とジョムキット・ジュジャロエン先生による「ボクシングブートキャンプ」が開催されました。これは希望する学生や教員がいつでも参加できる活動です。パンチングミットやサンドバッグを使ったボクシングトレーニングや軽快な音楽に合わせて有酸素運動と筋力トレーニングをするサーキットトレーニングなどが行われ、脂肪を燃やし、基礎代謝を上げ、ストレスを発散しました！
　トレーニングを終えた学生と教職員はすっきりとした表情で、心身ともにリフレッシュしている印象でした。

Boxing Boot Camp

 A Boxing Boot Camp was held by Philip sensei and Jomkit Jujaroen sensei during after-school hours on weekdays from Monday, September 11th to Friday, September 22nd, 2023. This was an activity open to any student or faculty member who wished to participate at any time. Boxing training using punching mitts and sandbags, as well as circuit training, a combination of aerobic exercise and strength training to light music, were conducted to burn fat, increase basal metabolism, and relieve stress!
 Students and faculty members seemed recharged after the training and gave the impression of being physically and mentally refreshed.

　こんにちは、白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。
　2023年8月7日（月）～8月9日（水）、白山麓キャンパスで公益財団法人海外子女教育振興財団（JOES)との共同企画「第３回 白山麓サマーワークショップ」が開催されました。小学5年生～中学3年生までの31名が参加し、２泊３日の宿泊型形式で「スタートアップ」をテーマに専門講師による指導や国際高専が実践している「エンジニアリングデザイン」などを英語で学びました。

 From Monday, August 7th to Wednesday, August 9th, 2023, the 3rd Hakusanroku Summer Workshop was held at the Hakusanroku Campus in collaboration with the Japan Overseas Educational Services (JOES). 31 participants, ranging from 5th grade elementary school students to 3rd grade junior high school students, stayed for three days and two nights to learn about "Start Up". This was done with the theme of Engineering Design, which is practiced by ICT, with guidance from expert lecturers in English.

1日目　2023年8月7日（月）

　まず始めに、松下 臣仁学科長による学校説明で、今回のワークショップで体験する本校の「English STEM教育」や「エンジニアリングデザイン教育」などの特色が紹介されました。その後、アイスブレイクとして、生徒たちはお互いを知るために自分の趣味やサマーワークショップへの期待をスケッチし、グループ内で発表しました。最初は緊張していた生徒たちも、すぐに打ち解けている様子でした。
　次にトッサ・メブサヤ准教授より、今回のテーマである「スタートアップ」について説明がありました。適切に課題を捉えることの重要性、事業を短期間で成長させ、新しい商品・サービス・事業展開を通じて社会変革を目指すこと等、事例を交えて紹介しました。続いて、ハヤト・オガワ准教授による「デザインシンキング」に関する講義と心構えの説明がありました。
　今回のワークショップのトピックは「学校生活をより良くする方法」です。生徒たちは6チームに分かれ、学校生活に潜む問題を定義し、課題設定を抽出、その問題解決に向けたアイデアづくりを行いました。生徒たちは勉強方法や学校の規則、教員とのコミュニケーションの取り方など様々な問題に焦点を当て、改善案を出し合いました。
　夕食後には、ラーニングメンターのクリシア・アティロ先生によるSTEM体験を活用した「パラシュート実験」が開催されました。生徒たちは空気抵抗を考えながら紙でパラシュートを製作し、2階から1階へパラシュートを目的地に落下させ、順位を競い合い大いに盛り上がりました。

Day 1, Monday, August 7th, 2023

 First, Omihito Matsushita sensei (Prof.) gave an introduction about ICT, explaining about the school's English STEM and Engineering Design Education that the students would experience during this workshop. Then, as an ice-breaker, students sketched out their hobbies and expectations for the summer workshop in order to get to know each other and presented them in groups. The students, who were nervous at first, quickly got to know each other.
 Next, Tossa Mebsaya sensei (Associate Professor) explained about Start Up, the theme of this session. He introduced the importance of properly grasping issues, growing a business in a short period of time and aiming for social change through the development of new products, services and businesses. Next, Hayato Ogawa sensei (Associate Professor) gave a lecture on Design Thinking and explained how to prepare for it.
 The topic of this workshop was "How to improve school life". Students were divided into 6 teams and worked together to define school life problems, identify problem settings, and develop ideas to solve those problems. Students focused on various issues such as how to study, school rules, and how to communicate with teachers and they came up with ideas to make improvements.
 After dinner, a Parachute Experiment was held, utilizing STEM experiences was held by Learning Mentor, Krishia Atillo sensei (Associate Lecturer). Students made paper parachutes while thinking about air resistance and had great fun competing for places by dropping their parachutes from the second floor to the first floor to their target.

2日目　2023年8月8日（火）

　前日に引き続き、学校生活に潜む問題解決に向けたアイデアづくりやプロトタイプの製作、ビジネスピッチのストーリー構成やパワーポイントを使ったプレゼンテーション用のスライドの作成、そして最終日に向けて発表の練習をしました。また、3Dプリンターやレーザーカッターを用いたオリジナルキーホルダーの製作や保健体育担当のフィリップ・ケザウ先生によるボルダリング体験会が開催され、生徒たちは難易度ごとに分けられた様々なコースに挑戦し楽しい時間を過ごしました。
　夕食後には、最終発表に向けてパワーポイントの作成や発表の練習、またオリジナルキーホルダー製作も引き続き行われました。

Day 2, Tuesday, August 8th, 2023

 Continuing from the previous day, the students created ideas and prototypes to solve school life problems, composed a storyline for a business pitch, created slides for a PowerPoint presentation and practiced their presentations for the final day. In addition, students made original key chains using a 3D printer and laser cutter. They also had a fun time bouldering with Philip Cadzow sensei, the Health and Physical Education teacher, as they tried various courses divided by difficulty level.
 After dinner, the students continued to prepare for their final presentations by finalizing PowerPoint presentations, practicing their presentations and making original key chains.

3日目　2023年8月9日（水）

　最終日には、多くの保護者が子供たちの成果を見るために白山麓キャンパスに集まりました。生徒たちはグループごとに英語で「学校生活をより良くする方法」のアイデアを発表しました。発表の様子は下のビデオで視聴することができます。発表後、鹿田 正昭校長より、生徒たちに修了証書が手渡しされ、サマーワークショップは幕を閉じました。
　今回のワークショップは英語で行うという内容でしたが、年齢や学校、出身地域などが異なる様々なバックグラウンドの参加者が集まっており、参加者はその知識を生かし、様々な方向からアイデアを出し合いました。このような新たな価値を創造するための考え方やプロセス、協働によるモノづくりやストーリーづくりの経験は、生徒たちの今後の学びに活かすことができるのではないでしょうか。
　２泊3日という短い期間でしたが、生徒たちの短期間での成長ぶりに大変驚くとともに、この中から一人でも多くの生徒が本校での体験に魅力感じ、入学に繋がればと思います。

Day 3, Wednesday, August 9th, 2023

 On the last day, parents gathered at the Hakusanroku Campus to see their children's achievements. Each group of students presented their ideas, in English, on how to improve school life. The presentations can be viewed in the video below. After the presentations, President Masaaki Shikada handed out certificates to the students, bringing the Summer Workshop to a close. 
 Although this workshop was conducted in English, the participants came from a variety of backgrounds including different ages, schools and regions of origin, so they used their knowledge to share ideas from many different directions. This kind of thinking and process for creating new value, as well as the experience of creating products and stories through collaboration, will be useful for the students' future studies.
 Although it was only a short period of three days and two nights, I was very surprised at how much the students grew in such a short period of time. We hope that as many of them as possible will find the experience at our school fascinating and will enroll in our school.

　こんにちは。白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。2023年6月25日（日）から7月1日（土）まで「ICT GLOBAL SUMMER CAMP」を開催しました。このプログラムは2018年と2019年の夏と冬に開催していましたが、新型コロナウイルスの影響で2020年から中止していました。今回は4年ぶりにタイ王国（以下：タイ）の中学生15名が参加し、AIやIoTを用いたデザイン思考やエンジニアリングデザインの手法を活用したプロジェクト型学習を体験しました。

 Hello, this is Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku Office. The ICT GLOBAL SUMMER CAMP was held from Sunday, June 25 to Saturday, July 1, 2023. This program had been held in the summer and winter of 2018 and 2019, but was suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19. This time, for the first time in four years, 15 junior high school students from Thailand participated in the project-based learning experience utilizing design thinking and engineering design methods with AI and IoT technologies.

1日目　2023年6月25日（日）

　初日は、タイの中学生（以下：生徒）とご家族が白山麓キャンパスに来校し、松下 臣仁先生による「English STEM教育」や「エンジニアリングデザイン教育」など国際高専の特色を紹介した後、キャンパスツアーが行われました。

Day 1, Sunday, June 25th, 2023

 On the first day, Thai junior high school students and their families came to the Hakusanroku Campus. There was a school explanation by Omihito Matsushita sensei and an introduction to the features of the ICT, including English STEM Education and Engineering Design Education. After this, the students and their families took a campus tour.

2日目　2023年6月26日（月）

　まずはアイスブレイクとして、生徒たちは自分の趣味やサマーキャンプへの期待をスケッチし、一人ずつ発表しました。生徒たちは「日本の文化を学びたい」や「エンジニアリングをたくさん学んでタイに持ち帰りたい！」など様々な想いを発表してくれました。その後、ハヤト・オガワ先生による「エンジニアリングデザイン」の導入ワークショップが行われました。生徒たちは3つのグループに分かれ、「最新のオリジナルマグカップ」のデザインを話し合い、それぞれのデザインを発表しました。
　午後には、ナグワ・ラシィド先生による化学実験教室が開催され、「窒素酸化物」や「酸性雨」が公害に繋がることについて実験を通して学びました。その後、フィリップ・ケザウ先生から体育館の使い方の説明を受け、生徒たちはバスケットボールやバドミントンなどをして体を動かした後、白山麓キャンパス内にある「比咩の湯」温泉を利用しました。生徒たちは「今まで行った温泉の中で一番気持ちよかった！」と大満足の様子でした。
　夕食後には、希望者を対象に松下先生指導のもと、オリジナルキーホルダー作りが行われました。各自パソコンで絵柄をデザインし、レーザーカッターを用いて作成しました。参加者はレーザーカッターが自動的に加工していく様子を興味深げに覗いていました。

Day 2, Monday, June 26th, 2023

 First, as an ice-breaker, students drew their hobbies and expectations for the summer camp and presented them one by one. Students had various ideas such as "I want to learn about Japanese culture" and "I want to learn a lot of engineering and bring it back to Thailand!” After that, an introductory workshop called Engineering Design was held by Hayato Ogawa sensei. The students were divided into three groups, discussed about The Latest Original Mug, designed a mug and presented it.
 In the afternoon, a chemistry lab class was held by Nagwa Rashed sensei. Students learned through experiments about nitrogen oxides and acid rain that lead to pollution.  After that, Philip Cadzow sensei explained how to use the gymnasium, and the students exercised by playing basketball and badminton, and then went to use Hime No Yu hot spring located on Hakusanroku Campus. The students were very satisfied with their hot spring experience, saying, "This is the best hot spring I have ever been to!”
 After dinner, students who wished to participate made their own original key chains under the guidance of Matsushita sensei. They created their own design on a computer and made the keychain using a laser cutter. They watched with interest as the laser cutter automatically processed the design.

 

3日目　2023年6月27日（火）

　3日目からはいよいよサマーキャンプのプロジェクト活動が開始しました。午前中はブランドン・ウォルファース先生による「プロジェクトガイダンス」が行われました。今回生徒たちに課されたテーマは以下の2つでした。
・AIやIoTを活用して観光産業を改善するための創造的な解決策を考える
・画像認識のAIモデルを作成する
　まずは金沢の観光産業におけるステークホルダーを見つけ出し、利害関係者となりうる人物を見つけるという課題が課され、生徒たちは金沢の観光地について下調べをしました。
　午後は、東茶屋街や兼六園、金沢城を観光しながら、観光地における課題解決に向けて調査しました。もちろん、金箔ソフトクリームや和菓子を堪能しながら金沢観光も満喫しました。
　夕食後には、日本語講座が行われ、簡単な日本語の挨拶の言い方や自分の名前を日本語で書く練習、日本の歌「上を向いて歩こう」を歌う練習をしました。

Day 3, Tuesday, June 27th, 2023

 On the third day, the summer camp project activities finally began. In the morning, Brandon Wohlfarth sensei gave the students a Project Guidance session. The following two themes were assigned to the students this time.
・Developing solutions to improve the tourism industry by using AI and IoT technologies.
・Developing an AI model for image recognition.
 First, students were assigned the task of finding stakeholders and potential stakeholders in Kanazawa's tourism industry, and conducted preliminary research on Kanazawa's tourist attractions.  
 In the afternoon, while touring Higashi Chaya District, Kenroku Garden, and Kanazawa Castle, the students conducted research to find solutions to problems in the tourist areas. Of course, they also enjoyed Kanazawa sightseeing, and had a chance to eat gold leaf soft serve ice cream and Japanese sweets.
 After dinner, a Japanese language class was held, where the students learned simple greetings, how to write their own names in Japanese, and how to sing a Japanese song called Ue Wo Muite Arukou.

 

4日目　2023年6月28日（水）

　午前中には、前日の観光先で発見した問題点からお店や観光客、建物が抱えていることに着目し問題定義しました。続いて、アピラク・サンゲンチャイ先生指導のもと、AIプログラミングについての講義や演習を行いました。
　午後には、石川県ふれあい昆虫館へ出かけ、「画像認識のAIモデル作成」に向け、昆虫のデータ収集をしました。生徒たちは蝶々やトンボ、バッタ、カブトムシ、その他昆虫を様々な角度から50枚撮影するという課題が課され、時間をかけて写真撮影に取り組みました。石川県ふれあい昆虫館を退館後、白山比咩神社へ向かい、日本の風情を楽しみました。
　夕食後には、後日開催する国際高専生（以下：本校の学生）との交流会に備え、本校の学生たちに向けてタイ語やタイの文化、タイの有名Youtuberなど様々なトピックの内容を話す準備をしました。

Day 4, Wednesday, June 28th, 2023

　In the morning, students defined the problems they had discovered while sightseeing the previous day. Students focused on the problems faced by stores, tourists and buildings. Then, under the guidance of Apirak Sang-ngenchai (Learning mentor) sensei, the students attended lectures and exercises on AI programming.
 In the afternoon, the students went to the Ishikawa Insect Museum to collect insect data for creating AI models for image recognition. Students were assigned the task of taking 50 pictures of butterflies, dragonflies, grasshoppers, beetles and other insects from various angles. Students took their time in taking the pictures. After leaving the Ishikawa Insect Museum, the students headed to enjoy the Japanese atmosphere of Hakusan Hime Shrine.
 After dinner, in preparation for the exchange meeting with ICT students to be held later in the day, they prepared to speak to ICT students on various topics such as Thai language, Thai culture, and famous Thai YouTubers.

5日目　2023年6月29日（木）

　午前中には、観光先で発見した問題点について、解決策をさらに掘り下げ、改善点をまとめ、最終日のプレゼンテーションに向けてポスターを作成しました。
　午後はAIプログラミングで使用する「CiRA CORE」を活用して基本的なプログラミングを学んだ後、３つのチームに分かれて、前日に撮影した石川県ふれあい昆虫館の昆虫の写真を用いて画像認識システムを制作しました。
　放課後には、本校の学生たちとの「第1回 国際交流会」が開催されました。この日は本校の学生たちがタイの生徒たちに日本について紹介しました。本校の学生1名とタイの生徒2名が1グループとなり、本校の学生たちが日本語での挨拶や自己紹介の言い方などをレクチャーし、タイの生徒たちは1人ずつ日本語を発表しました。その後、本校の学生たちは折り紙で手裏剣の折り方をレクチャーしました。

Day 5, Thursday, June 29th, 2023

 In the morning, students further explored solutions to problems they discovered, summarized improvements and created posters for presentation on the final day.
 In the afternoon, the students learned basic programming utilizing CiRA CORE, which is used for AI programming. Then, the students were divided into three teams to create an image recognition system using photos of insects from the Ishikawa Insect Museum taken the day before.
 After school, the "1st International Exchange event" with ICT students was held. On this day, ICT students introduced Japan to Thai students. One ICT student and two Thai students formed a group, and the ICT students gave lectures on greetings and self-introductions in Japanese. And then, 1 by 1 the Thai students demonstrated what they had learned. After that, the ICT students gave a lecture on how to fold a shuriken using origami!

6日目　2023年6月30日（金）

　午前中には、最終日の発表に向けた最終準備としてポスター制作を行った後、フィリップ先生レクチャーのもと、ボルダリング体験会が行われ、ホールド（大小様々な形をした色分けされた突起物）を使った登り方を学び、難易度ごとに分けられた様々なコースに挑戦しました。
　午後には、加賀 伝統工芸村「ゆのくにの森」へ出かけ、金箔貼りを体験しました。生徒たちはトレーに金箔を1枚貼り、竹串で手書きしてデザインしました。金箔に日本語を書く生徒もいれば、アニメのキャラクターを描く生徒など、それぞれ思い思いに型を作り、オリジナルの金箔工芸品を完成させました。
　放課後には、本校の学生たちとの「第2回 国際交流会」が開催されました。この日はタイの生徒たちが本校の学生たちにタイについて紹介しました。本校の学生たちとタイの生徒たちは3つのグループに分かれました。タイの生徒たちは本校の学生たちにタイ語であいさつを教えた後、本校の学生たちは1人ずつタイ語を披露しました。そしてタイの生徒たちはタイの文化や食べ物などを本校の学生たちに紹介した後、タイの生徒たちは日本の歌「上を向いて歩こう」を披露し、国際交流会は終了しました。本校の学生たちは入学してから初となる国際交流となり、英語を実際に活用しながら楽しそうにコミュニケーションを取っているのが印象的でした！

Day 6, Friday, June 30th, 2023

 In the morning, the students worked on their posters as a final preparation for their presentations on the last day. After that, a hands-on bouldering session was held under the direction of Philip sensei. The students learned how to climb using holds (color-coded projections of various shapes and sizes) and tried various courses divided by difficulty level. 
 In the afternoon, the students went to Kaga Traditional Craft Village "Yunokuni no Mori" to experience gold leaf pasting. Students applied a sheet of gold leaf to a tray and hand-drew designs on it with a bamboo stick. Some students wrote Japanese words on gold leaf, some students drew Anime characters - students created their own molds to complete their original gold leaf crafts.
 After school, the "2nd International Exchange event" with ICT students was held. On this day, Thai students introduced Thailand to ICT students. ICT students and Thai students were divided into three groups. The Thai students taught ICT students greetings in Thai, and then ICT students performed Thai greetings one by one. Finally, the Thai students sang a Japanese song called Ue Wo Muite Aruko to ICT students and the international exchange event was over. This was the first international exchange event for ICT students since they entered the school and it was impressive to see them enjoying communicating with each other while actually using English!

7日目　2023年7月1日（土）

　最終日には生徒たちのご家族を白山麓キャンパスにお招きし、「エンジニアリングデザインプロジェクト」発表会が行われました。各チームは観光地で発見した問題を改善するための創造的な解決策を発表しました。発表の内容は下の動画をご覧ください！
　発表後には「画像認識AIモデルコンペティション」が行われました。アピラク先生は、生徒たちが「石川県ふれあい昆虫館」で撮影した昆虫の写真がどれだけAIが認識しているか披露し、認識度の点数が発表されると会場は大いに盛り上がりました！そして生徒たちは「上を向いて歩こう」を合唱した後、鹿田校長から修了証書が手渡されました。最後には、金沢キャンパス「夢考房」の見学をしてグローバルサマーキャンプの幕を閉じました。

　生徒たちは緊張した姿を見せずに堂々と発表していたので、感心しました。今回のプロジェクト型学習を通じて、AIやIoTを活用したプロジェクト活動をチームで創り上げる楽しさを体感できたのではないでしょうか。また、生徒たちは本校の学生たちとの国際交流を楽しんでいる姿も印象的でした。

Day 7, Saturday, July 1st, 2023

 On the last day, the Thai students' families were invited to the Hakusanroku Campus for an Engineering Design Project presentation. Each team presented a creative solution to improve a problem they discovered at a tourist attraction. Please watch the video below to see the presentations!
 After the presentations, an AI model competition for image recognition was held. Apirak sensei presented how well the AI recognized the photos of insects taken by the students at the Ishikawa Insect Museum, and the audience was very excited when Apirak sensei announced the recognition scores! The students then sang Ue Wo Muite Arukou and President Shikada handed out certificates to the participating students. The Global Summer Camp ended with a tour of YUMEKOBO on the Kanazawa Campus.

 I was impressed by the students as they gave their presentations in a dignified manner without showing any signs of nervousness. Through this project-based learning program, I believe that the students were able to experience the fun of creating project activities using AI and IoT as a team. It was also impressive to see the students enjoying the international exchange with ICT students.
